EXETER — Students in Mrs. Daneen Kearns and Mrs. Ann Marie Kachmarsky’s kindergarten classes at John F. Kennedy Elementary School recently participated in a community service project to help celebrate the 100th day of school by setting a goal to collect 100 cans and donate them to the West Pittston Salvation Army Food Pantry.

Throughout the months of January and February, the students would bring in cans and incorporate the project into their math curriculum by counting the the cans by 1’s, 5’s and 10’s. They also graphed the cans to keep track of how many they had collected.

Each class surpassed their goal with Mrs. Kearns’s class collecting 127 cans and Mrs. Kachmarsky’s class collecting 111 cans.
