The Area Agency on Aging of Luzerne/Wyoming Counties reminds recipients of the 2014 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program vouchers that they have until Nov. 30 to redeem them.

These vouchers can only be used to purchase locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables at farmers market stands that are participants of the Department of Agriculture’s SFMNP; baked goods, meat, jam, honey, apple cider or eggs are not allowable for purchase with these vouchers.

Wyoming/West Wyoming Seniors

The Wyoming/West Wyoming Seniors will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2 in the meeting room of St. Monica Parish. Servers are Ann Kosloski and Eva Casseri.

The 50/50 winners from last meeting were Helen Ostrowski, Elenor Seneski and Betty O’Hara. Bingo jackpot winner was Stanley Mulesky.

Refreshments will be served after a brief business meeting. Bingo and cards will be played. Residence is not required.

Cosmopolitan Seniors

The Cosmopolitan Seniors will at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9 in St. Anthony’s Center. Hosts/hostesses are Amy Alpaugh, Tom Alpaugh, Antionette Manganello, Sharon McAdarra and Ron McAdarra.

Fifty three members and one guest attended the previous meeting. Ron McAdarra led the group in prayer and song. After a brief business meeting, bingo was played. Ron McAdarra and Frank Balcavage shared the special game prize and the jackpot prize was won by Marion Kratzer who also was a 50/50 winner along with Mary Coleman, Juanita Herrick, Rose Mary Oliveri and Helen Zarychta.

A trip to Sands Casino in Bethlehem is planned for Sept. 11. Pickups are in Exeter and Pittston. Non-members are welcome. Call Johanna at 570-655-2720 for reservations and information.

Falls Active Center

The Falls Active Adult Center, sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging for Luzerne/Wyoming counties, invites anyone 50 and over to the following activities. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is located on State Route 92.

Monday: 1 to 2 p.m. Craft Club

Tuesday: Brain Games at lunch

Wednesday: 10 a.m. to noon Walking group

Thursday: Nutrition talks at lunch

Friday: 9:30 a.m. to noon, Geocaching activity

Wednesday, Sept. 3: 9 a.m. Annual picnic at Frances Slocum State Park

Monday, Sept. 8: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Book Club meets to discuss “The Kitchen House” by Kathleen Grissom. Beth Rutkowski is the facilitator of the group.

Wednesday, Sept. 10: 10 a.m. to noon. Russell Gunton from State Rep. Karen Boback’s office will be here to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Wednesday, Sept. 10: 1 p.m. A 9/11 Commemorative service will be held. Stew Atkinson from the “Jolly Seniors” is organizing this program.

Saturday, Sept. 13: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is hosting a craft fair and bake sale. A wide variety of crafts will be offered. Outside space available for a $10 fee (bring your own table).

Anyone wishing to join us for a hot meal at noon for a suggested donation of $2 for those over 60 and $3 under 60, should RSVP to Twila at 570-388-2623 by 12:30 p.m. the day before.
