Dorothy Hizny, 73, of West Wyoming, died September 28, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born in Duryea to the late Stanley and Stella (Lewandowski) Rava. She was a 1953 graduate of Duryea High School and 1956 graduate of Nesbitt Memorial School of Nursing. She was a member of Our Lady Sorrow Church, West Wyoming. She retired as Director of Nursing from Valley Crest Nursing Home after 29 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfred, and son Alan; also preceding her in death were siblings Joseph, Frank, Paul, Edward, Stanley Jr., John, Charles, Josephine, Helen, Stella and Anna.
Surviving are her five daughters, Ms. Janine Dymond, Harding; Mrs. Paul (Helen) Mazzitelli, West Wyoming; Mrs. Michael (Pamela) Bevilacqua, Winston-Salem, NC; Mrs. Carl (Joyce) Pocceschi, Annandale, NJ; and Mrs. Louis (Charlene) Tarnalicki, Sugar Notch; 12 grandchildren, Missi, Lindsey and Kayleigh Dymond; Sara and Lauren Mazzitelli; Nikki and Alan Bevilacqua; Carley, Carissa and Chloe Pocceschi; and Morgan and Matthew Tarnalicki; and siblings Alfred Rava, Duryea; Peter Rava, Nanticoke; Leon Rava, Rome, NY; Maryann Tigue, Avoca; and Theresa Salidas, Duryea.
Funeral services were Oct. 2 from the Metcalfe and Shaver Funeral Home, Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, West Wyoming. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
