Overtime wasn’t enough Wednesday night as Dallas and Wyoming Area played to a 1-1 tie in Wyoming Valley Conference field hockey.

Both teams played a physical game for most of the night as the only two goals came in the first half. Wyoming Area picked up the first goal when junior Bree Bednarski scored on an assist from Jillian Spak.

The lead would only last about seven minutes as Dallas answered right back with a goal of its own.

“This is only the second tie I’ve ever been a part of,” Wyoming Area coach Chris Comiskey said. “But I’m so happy that my girls showed their toughness and durability throughout this long match.”

Both squads had numerous chances to break the tie in regulation, but the game ended up needing overtime. The momentum swung back and forth for the extra period, but neither team was able to score.

Both goalies had strong games for their teams as Wyoming Area’s Christina Granteed finished with five saves and Dallas’ Becky Stout finished with nine of her own.

“I know one thing,” Comiskey said. “I feel sorry for the next team that we play.”
