Laflin Public Library

The Laflin Public Library is located at 47 Laflin Road, Laflin and can be reached at 570-654-3323. The library is open from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Laflin Book Discussion Group will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9 in the library for a meeting as well as the distribution of the first book for the fall shared-cost session, which will be “The Expats” by Chris Pavone.

Pittston Memorial Library

Family Storytime will begin at 4 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11.

Homework help is offered from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.

Taste of Greater Pittston: From 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 21 on the grounds of the Pittston Memorial Library. Taste great food from area restaurants, sample wine and craft brews. Tickets are limited and are $30 each. There will be raffles and 50/50. Purchase your ticket at the Pittston Library. Raffles are available at the front desk from now until the event $2 each or three for $5.

The Walking Dead Discussion Group

The Wyoming Free Library will hold a discussion group during the upcoming season of The Walking Dead. The first discussion will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 13. The discussion group will meet every Monday and discuss what happened on Sunday night.

Great Pumpkin Halloween Party

The Wyoming Free Library will host a Great Pumpkin Halloween party from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26. at the John Jude Bolin Memorial Park in Wyoming.

Children of all ages are welcome to a day of Halloween activities followed by pictures with Snoopy and a costume parade. Refreshments and giveaways will be offered at the party.

There will be a showing of the cartoon, The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown at noon on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the library.

Books to Screen Discussion Group

The Wyoming Free Library will host a book/film discussion for the book, “Horns” by Joe Hill and starring Danielle Radcliffe.

The group will meet to compare the movie to the book.

The film viewing will be on Sunday, Nov. 2 at the R/C 14 Movie Theater in Wilkes-Barre. The time will be determined at a later date. If people are unable to make the viewing date, they can view the movie on their own.

The book/film discussion will be at noon on Saturday, Nov. 8. There will be a limited number of books available for the discussion, so call the library at 570-693-1364 to register.

Future discussions in the series are: “Divergent,” “Gone Girl” and “Fifty Shades of Grey.”
