Wyoming Area used big finishes to pull out Wyoming Valley Conference baseball victories both Thursday and Friday.

Berwick 5

Kyle Charney’s bases-loaded, two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday lifted Wyoming Area to a 6-5 victory over Berwick.

The Warriors worked their way back after Berwick, a Division 1 team that entered the game with an 8-2 record, scored three runs in the top of the first.

Wyoming Area took a 5-3 lead with four runs in the fourth and recovered from Berwick scoring twice in the sixth to force a tie.

Charney and Corey Lescavage drove in two runs each. Charney, Joe Gavenonis and Tino Romanelli each had two hits. Gavenonis and Bryant Clark had doubles.

Gavenonis worked 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win.

Dallas 6

Pittston Area 2

Domenic Oliveri’s two-run homer in the fifth inning put Dallas ahead to stay on the way to a 6-2 win over Dallas Friday.

Pittston Area managed just four hits. Joe Champi doubled for the only extra-base hit and drove in one of the two runs for the Patriots.

Wyoming Area 7

Holy Redeemer 4

Wyoming Area scored four times in the top of the seventh inning to take control of the game and Evan Musto went 3-for-3 with an RBI when the Warriors defeated host Holy Redeemer, 7-4, Thursday in Division 2.

The Warriors led just 3-2 going into the last inning, then held off a rally by the Royals in the bottom of the seventh.

Winning pitcher Zach Lopatka had two hits and drove in a run.

Corey Lescavage went 2-for-2 with a double and Tyler Mitchell hit a home run.

Joe Gavenonis picked up the save.

Berwick 8

Pittston Area 3

Berwick defeated Pittston Area, 8-3, Thursday in a Division 1 game.

Mike Carey, who drove in a run, and Pat McGinty had two hits each for the Patriots.

Wyoming Valley West 13, Wyoming Area 0

Bill Gregory and Tyler Yankosky combined on a two-hit shutout to lead Wyoming Valley West to its fifth straight victory, 13-0, over Wyoming Area in a game that was completed Monday after being suspended by rain April 26.

Tyler Mitchell and Fred Cefalo had the Wyoming Area hits.
