Maria Gubbiotti, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gubbiotti of Falls has placed first in the American Chemical Society contest for second year chemistry students.
While at Wyoming Area, Maria, maintained a 4.0 grade point average, was honored as a Scholastic Superstar by the Scranton Times Tribune and was a finalist in the Science and Environment category of the Times LeaderÂąs Best and Brightest. Maria has also placed first in the University of Scranton Brain Bee and ninth in the International Brain Bee Competition.
She captained the Wyoming Area Science Bowl team that placed first in the Bloomsburg University Science Iditarod and the Wyoming Area National Ocean Science Bowl team that placed first in the Pennsylvania/New Jersey Regional Competition.
Maria won Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals in the Pennsylvania Science Olympiad, and was a member of the second place Envirothon team and third place Kane Physics team.
Maria captained Wyoming AreaÂąs 2007 academic team to the runner-up spot in WVIAÂąs Scholastic Scrimmage. She has also received top academic honors from the Wyoming Area Science Department for excellence in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Organic Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Anatomy, AP Biology, AP Physics and AP Chemistry.
She is also an accomplished equestrian who has won numerous horse show titles. Maria has accepted a full Presidential Scholarship to the University of Scranton where she plans to major in biochemistry and neuroscience.
