EXETER — Jessica Hopkins, of West Pittston, recently qualified to participate in this year’s All State Band.
Hopkins has played the flute at Wyoming Area since fifth grade and added piccolo during high school marching band and cymbals in indoor percussion.
She has participated in many PMEA Festivals since middle school, including District Band, District Orchestra, Regional Band and in April will compete in All States in Erie.
One of the original members of the Northeast Youth Wind Ensemble at Marywood, Hopkins participates in the Northeast Philharmonic Mentoring Program. This year she also participated in the Luzerne County Band where she was honored with a scholarship. She has also participated in Wyoming Seminary’s Performing Arts Institute since 2012.
This year, Hopkins was chosen as one of WVIA’s Artist’s of the Week and recently was named one of its top 10 finalists of their Artist of the Year.
Hopkins has been instructed by her director Shea Riley at Wyoming Area and her private instructor Nancy Sanderson of Wilkes Barre.
She was accepted to Penn State Main where she will study Music Education.
Ben Klaproth, also a student of Wyoming Area and who plays trumpet, has also qualified to participate in All State Band.
