The annual Easter Egg Hunt 5K will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 24. Runners and walkers will collect Easter eggs along the course, and each egg takes off seconds from their finishing time. The race is a fundraiser for the Avoca Hose Company and Ruth’s Place women’s shelter. Last year, $2,000 was raised to keep the community safe and help the homeless. There will be appearances by Alt 92.1, Tux the Penguin, and the Easter Bunny.

The Feast of St. Joseph will be celebrated Monday, March 19 with a solemn Mass at 11 a.m. with His Excellency Bishop Joseph C. Bambera as principal celebrant and homilist. The Oblate priests and Diocesan clergy will concelebrate. At the conclusion of the Holy Mass, St. Joseph’s Bookmarks will be blessed and distributed. There also will be a Holy Mass at 7 p.m.
Deepen your Lenten devotion on at 6 p.m. every Monday evening until March 26 — Monday of Holy Week. The evenings will include the Rosary with newly composed scriptural Sorrowful Mysteries by Ernie Pappa, Fatima prayers, the Litany of the Most Precious Blood and Lenten songs. Participants will assist in leading the prayers and decades of the rosary.
Every Wednesday Novena prayers to St. Joseph and St. Joseph Marello after the 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Masses. Confessions before Masses.
Thursday, first Thursday of the month, Holy Hour for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life at 7 p.m. Come and join in prayer to ask the Lord to send young and less young people to serve the Holy Church in the Priesthood and in the Religious Life.

Stations of the Cross will be prayed in common each at 7 p.m. Friday evening throughout Lent. Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament will occur immediately after the Stations.
On Mondays of Lent, Confessions will be heard from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the church.
Gorzkie zale, the traditional Polish-language Lenten devotion known as the “Bitter Lamentations,” will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18. The devotion is a sung reflection on the Passion of Christ and his Sorrowful Mother. The choir of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea will join in the singing. Fr. Gregory Finn, OSJ, will be the guest homilist. A light reception will follow in the church hall. All are invited to attend.
A flea market will be held Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6, in the church hall. Beginning in April, items in good condition will be accepted in the church hall. Donated items that will be accepted include household items, kitchen items, toys, holiday decorations, books, jewelry, furniture and more. Electronics and clothing will not be accepted.

The Altar & Rosary Society of St. Joseph Marello Parish, William St., Pittston will hold a Penny Auction Sunday, March 11 in the parish hall. Admission is $1. The doors will open at 1:30 p.m. and the auction begins at 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served together with some door prizes.

The Catholic Charismatic Renewal will celebrate a Mass with Prayers for Healing at 7 p.m. Sunday , March 11 at St. Mary’s Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca. Rev. August Riccardi will be the celebrant, and there will be a Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m. with prayers for healing following the Mass. The evening is hosted by Diving Mercy Prayer Group of Archbald, and refreshments will be served.
Girl Scout Troop 32109 is collecting non-perishable food items to benefit local food banks. A collection bin will be placed in the vestibule until March 19.
