PITTSTON – Pittston Memorial Library 2022 Sustainability Campaign fundraising effort continues in helping the library to raise a minimum of$40,000 per year for operational costs.

The campaign started in 2020 only to stall due to the pandemic and outbreak of COVID-19 and the 2021 campaign was canceled. Library officials, although concerned with the lack of campaign funds over the last two years, hope 2022 will help turn the tide.

“The Sustainable Fund is moving in the right direction,” Howard Grossman, Pittston Memorial Library’s fundraising director, said. “We have been getting grant applications out for higher amount of money. For example, we received a check today from one donor and instead of paying year-by-year, they gave us the whole amount for three years on one check.”

Library board member Lois Ostrowski said if enough people could donate in one lump sum it shows they like the library and show their support.

Grossman said he was thankful for the Times Leader being a media sponsor helping with advertisement as well as generous donations by corporate sponsors Kuharchik Construction, Inc., Community Bank, Discover NEPA and the estate of John Turon.

Flyers will be sent out in the near future to a large bulk of businesses and individuals, according to Grossman.

To ease the effort in raising money to sustain the library, Grossman said they are always looking for alternate ways in doing so such as the highly successful of miniature golf inside the library.

A drive-thru dinner is on the table for possibly later this year, Ostrowski added.

Robert Bresnahan currently serves at the Sustainability Campaign.

Grossman said he’s grateful to the Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce for getting the word out on the Sustainability Campaign.

If you are interested in donating to the Pittston Memorial Library, checks may be sent to 47 Broad St., Pittston, PA 18640.

The Sustainability Campaign continues through 2024.
