PITTSTON — City resident Diane Morris brought her concerns about traffic issues on Lambert Street to the city council members during their monthly meeting Wednesday night.

She noted drivers speed down the steep street and several accidents occurred just outside her home along a wall that has prevented worse disasters.

“If that wall was not there, they would have went right into my house because our house is close to the road,” an emotional Morris told the council members. “People do not understand how to drive on a hill. We had a fence in front of our house that was knocked down over three times.”

Fearing for her family’s safety, Morris asked the council members to consider turning Lambert Street into a one-way going uphill.

City mayor Jason Klush sympathized with Morris, saying he drives down Lambert Street often and understands the potential dangers it holds.

“I live up in the area and come down that street every morning,” he said. “I know what it’s like.”

City Administrator Joe Moskovitz can’t guarantee that Lambert Street will become a one-way, but said a study will be done to determine if it’s possible.

“I will meet with (Fire Chief James) Rooney and (Chief of Police Robert) Powers and the Department of Public Works to discuss the issue,” he said, “We’ll call in the city engineer, Riley Associates, and we’ll evaluate the area to see what improvements we can make. If a recommendation comes back that a one-way street is the best way to do it, then we’ll pursue it.”

In other business, council members approved:

• The closing of Anderson Street between William Street and Board Street from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, June 2 and Saturday, June 3 for the St. Joseph Marello Parish Picnic.

• The placement of a banner on South Main Street to promote Pittston History Day on Saturday, April 22.

• The request for the Greater Pittston Stoners Youth Soccer Association to use Clark Park for practices and games.
