A snow system from the Great Lakes is expected to fall in the Wyoming Valley this weekend, and the National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook advisory for Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.
The NWS indicated it was 26 degrees as of 7:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.
Today’s forecast calls for a chance of scattered snow showers before 10 a.m., then scattered flurries between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. It will be partly sunny with a high near 31. Total daytime accumulation of less than a half inch of snow possible.
Tonight, mostly cloudy with a low around 20.
Sunday during the day there is a chance for snow, with snowfall mainly after 4 p.m., with a high near 32. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. According to NWS, a system is expected to move into the Northeast Sunday night from the Great Lakes, bringing snowfall through the night into Monday morning. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent, with a low around 30. Accumulation of around 3 inches possible.
NWS warns the snowfall could make for rough conditions on the commute Monday morning, and that winter weather advisories may be issued this weekend.
Monday, there is a chance for rain before 1 p.m., with a high near 42.
Monday night there is a chance for some scattered snow showers, with a low around 28. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent.
Tuesday is expected to be partly sunny with a high near 37.
