A driver’s speed can only really be controlled by his/her own good driving judgment, but a fine for speeding or running a red light surely is a deterrent.
So I can’t understand why the Times Leader continues to publish Tom McCarey’s letters, condemning any and all proposals designed to deter speeding by state and municipal lawmakers.
He condemns cameras at red lights; perhaps he feels it is OK for 2 or 3 cars to continue through a busy intersection after the light has turned red.
In his past letters, he has said that safety for construction workers should be beefed up rather than have drivers slow down in a work area, so that a driver can fly through at 70 mph rather than 50 mph for that short area of construction.
Also, he doesn’t want local police to have radar to keep our city streets safe for our children and older adults, where a speed limit is 35 mph, and going 40 mph won’t get you a ticket. Isn’t that fast enough for him in the city?
I see two choices for him since local traffic laws are slowing him down: move to a state like Nevada or Montana that have no speed limit or apply to NASCAR for a license and drive their circuits.
