The first day of 2017 will be sunny and mild but it won’t last long as precipitation is expected through Wednesday.

As of 9 a.m., the National Weather Service indicated it was 37 degrees at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Tonight brings a chance of freezing rain and sleet after 4 a.m., with a low around 28.

Freezing rain continues into Monday, with a change over to all rain by 10 a.m. Cloudy with a high in the low 40s.

A tenth of an inch of rain is expected to accumulate Monday night, with a low around 37.

The raindrops will continue into Tuesday. For the third day of the new year, a high near 50 and a low near 36.
