KINGSTON — The Wyoming Valley Lady Striders will conduct a Couch to 5K program beginning Thursday, April 16. The program lasts for eight weeks and will meet three times a week: Tuesday (Kingston levee) and Thursday (Wyoming levee) at 6 p.m., and Saturday (Kirby Park) at 9 a.m.
Couch to 5K is a beginners program that combines walking and jogging. The idea is to transform the participants from couch potato’s to runners, preparing them to run a 5K (or 3.1 miles) and on a regular basis in just two months. Registration will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9 in the levee parking lot on the corner of Church Street and Rutter Avenue. The registration fee is $25. Participants must also join the Wyoming Valley Striders. The annual fee to be a Strider is $5, which also affords discounts at several local running stores. The goal race will be the “Be Prepared To Run Flag Day 5k” on June 13 in Wilkes-Barre.
