As part of Mining History Week, Atty. F. Charles Petrillo of Wilkes-Barre will speak at a program sponsored by the Huber Breaker Preservation Society and show two classic anthracite documentary films at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Earth Conservancy Building, 101 Main Street, Ashley . The first film is titled, “Delaware and Hudson Anthracite,” a 1927 silent film produced by the D&H Coal Company that illustrates coal production methods in its Wyoming and Lackawanna coal fields. The second film is, “Operation Scarlift,” a 1970 film highlighting the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources’ efforts to reclaim mined-scarred lands in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Chester Kulesa, administrator of the Anthracite Heritage and Iron Furnaces Museum, Scranton, will also speak about the Museum’s film collection and its 2015 programming. Refreshments will be served.
