Walter and Ann Marie (Kamarauskas) Smith Jr., of West Pittston, celebrated 50 years of love on May 4 with a vow renewal ceremony officiated by Msgr. John Sempa at Immaculate Conception Church in West Pittston, where they were originally married by Father Meckwood in 1965.
The couple were West Pittston High School sweethearts and the life they have built together, with patience and strength, has taken them on a journey from state to state while Mr. Smith served in Vietnam, through the births of their children, graduations and marriages and births, happy and sad times. Their loving bond has grown into not only a solid unity but a best friendship.
The couple are proud parents of three children and their beloved Shih-Tzu Pug, Carli, Walter and Susan Smith, Kristine (Smith) Cruise, and Michael and Lori Smith, all of whom live locally. They have three grandchildren, Rebecca Ann Marie and husband David Ruggles, Karah Jessica and Walter “Bear” Smith. The couple is eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first great-grandchild in September.
The couple enjoys spending time at home working their garden, taking day trips, building puzzles, spending time with their children and grandchildren and they enjoy just being at home with each other and their dog. You can find them most summer nights on their front porch, feet up, relaxing and taking in the many sights of the river. The couple is planning a summer vacation with family to celebrate.
