PITTSTON — Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26 in the board room of the library. Items on the agenda will include the results of the Barnes & Noble Book Fair, presentation to the library director, review and discussion of the 2015 calendar, and date of the Nite at the Races. Members are reminded to bring a gift card for the basket that will be assembled and awarded in late April. Meeting of the Friends are held on the fourth Monday of each month. New members are always welcome.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group meets each month. Come meet others that are raising their grandchildren to share stories and gain support at noon on Monday, Jan. 26 and Monday, Feb. 23.
The Art Club for kids in grades 2 to 5 will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5. We will make seasonal decorations and fun projects.
Teen Advisory Group will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12. TAG members are considered volunteers of the library and help plan teen library events. Some past TAG sponsored events are game nights, library flash mobs, scavenger hunts, and Wii Game Fests. TAG is open to all teens in grades 6-12. New members are welcome.
Try your luck at love at the Pittston Library by checking out a “blind date book.” Take your date home and rate it. Bring the form that is enclosed back to the library to be entered in to a drawing to win prizes to be given away on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.
The grandparents coalition will meet at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at the library.
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program at the Pittston Memorial Library is free and open to all children in the community from birth to kindergarten. Come to the library and register your child. The child will receive a bag with an age appropriate book in it to keep in his or her collection. All that you need to do is keep track of any book read to the child on paper or through the 1,000 books app. Return the form to the Pittston Library for prizes for every 100 books read.
Our lively adult book club will resume at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 26. We are going to be reading “Life After Life” and copies are available through the Luzerne County Library System. The February meeting is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23.
February Teen Reading Lounge meetings will be held from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, Saturday, March 7 and Saturday, March 28. Teen Reading Lounge, or TRL, is an interactive book club for teens in grades 6-12. Each month we will focus on a new book and engage in fun activities based on the book. The best part is that teens get to keep their own copy of the book. Registration is necessary. Call the library or email us at pittstonlibrary@osterhout.lib.pa.us to sign up.
Kids ages 3 to 11 are invited to the Lego Club, which is held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday.
Homework help is offered from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
Family Story Time for children of all ages is held at 10 a.m. each Wednesday. Toddler Story Time for children ages 2 to 3 is held at 10 a.m. every Tuesday. Pre-K Storytime for children 3 to 5 is held at 11:30 a.m. every Tuesday. Call the library to register.
Homework help is offered from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for children in grades 1-5. All subjects are available.
The Crochet Club meets at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and 5 p.m. on Thursdays. The club donated a large basket of handmade items to be raffled off this month. Tickets are $1.
