The annual Greater Pittston Charity Train Ride to historic Jim Thorpe is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 28. The excursion is on the newly restored Reading & Northern RR’s 1920 era open window coach, pulled by a diesel locomotive.
The train departs at 9 a.m. from Duryea and returns approximately 6:45 p.m. The ride is approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes each way with about 3 ½ hours of free time in Jim Thorpe.
Seating is limited and early reservations are suggested. Tickets are $65 per person and checks should be made payable to Greater Pittston Charity Train Ride and sent in care of the YMCA, 10 North Main Street, Pittston, PA 18640.
All riders, including children, must have a ticket.
Directions to the boarding site, parking and details of the trip will be provided with the tickets which will be mailed to you two weeks prior to departure. The trip runs rain or shine.
The Reading & Northern RR is a smoke-free environment. There are no smoking or alcoholic beverages aboard the train or on railroad property.
Each individual car has a bathroom facility. There no assigned seats on the train. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Proceeds benefit the Pittston Memorial Library, Greater Pittston YMCA and the Care and Concern Free Health Clinic.
