About 400 days ago, Pittston Area lacrosse was born.

And to this point, the Patriots were sitting on two wins in school history — both in the 2013 campaign. Mark May 7, 2014, on the calendar as the day Pittston Area garnered its third lacrosse win.

The Patriots picked up their first in of the season with an 11-3 win over Tunkhannock.

The Patriots will be playing in the District 2 playoffs, which start on Monday.

Crestwood 12

Pittston Area 7

Pittston Area got a pair of goals from Bianca Mattie-Miller, Haley Norwillo and Sara Rugy in a 12-7 loss at the hands of Crestwood on Monday.

Emily Herron tallied one goal for the Patriots, who only scored one goal in the first half.

Daniella Callaghan totaled seven goals and one assist to lead the Comets to the win.

Lake-Lehman 9

Pittston Area 8

Pittston Area’s Emily Herron scored four goals but it wasn’t enough in a loss at the hands of Lake-Lehman.

Haley Norwillo, Nicole Karuzie, Elaina Menichelli and Sara Ruby also picked up tallies for the Patriots. Nicole Walters and Bianca Concert combined for seven saves.

District 2

The first round of the PIAA District 2 girls lacrosse tournament will be held on Monday, May 12 at sites and times to be determined.

The District 2 Boys/Girls Lacrosse Championship will be an open tournament. Seeding will be based on the league records of the teams from the newly formed Wyoming Valley Lacrosse league.

All games will be played at the higher seeded team – including the championship games
