Welcome back
On behalf of the Intermediate Center administration, faculty and staff, we would like to welcome parents/guardians and students to the 2014-2015 school year. We look forward to cooperatively working with you to provide quality learning experiences for your child this coming school year in an environment that is safe, warm and caring. Our staff is committed to providing your child with a rewarding and fulfilling educational experience. The role you play in your child’s education is vitally important. Your partnership with us will form the foundation of what will be a positive and rewarding learning experience for your child.
Your child will receive his/her student handbook on the first day of school. Please take the time to review and to discuss the contents of the student handbook with your child. This will be the first step in developing your partnership with us and to ensure academic success for your child.

First day of school
The first day of school is tomorrow, Aug. 25. If you have not registered your child, please contact the school’s office at 570-654-2415 press 3 to make an appointment.
Transportation notice
To avoid any confusion on the first day of school please, parents are asked to send a note with your child to give to their teacher stating how he/she will be going home (for example bus number and location of bus stop, car or walking student, Riverview walking students, or special transportation (for example Vans/Daycare.)
Lunch applications
Free and reduced lunch applications will be sent home with your child in the first few days of school. Applications are due by Oct. 10.
Arrival/departure schedule
Car and walking students may begin to arrive at 8:20 a.m. Early arriving second-grade students are to report to the cafeteria. Early arriving third and fourth-grade students are to report to the gym. All students will report to their classrooms at 8:40 a.m. Van students will dismiss at 3:02 p.m. Car and walking students will dismiss at 3:10 p.m. through the Middle School main entrance. Bus students will board the buses at 3:25 p.m. If there is a change in how your child will go home, parents are asked to send in a note to their homeroom teacher.
Arrival procedure
All parents who drive their child to school in the morning are reminded to use the driveway on the side of the Intermediate Center. In order to keep our students safe, they are not allowed to be dropped off in the parking lot. Please adhere to the security guard’s directives.
Dress code
The Pittston Area School District has a structured dress code for all students. Parents and students are reminded to review and follow the district’s structured dress code policy. The policy is available through the district’s website at www.pittstonarea.com or a copy can be obtained in the Intermediate Center’s Office.
Attendance
Parents are reminded to contact the Intermediate Center Office prior to 9 a.m. on the day their child will be absent from school. Upon return to school, a written excuse/medical excuse must be provided to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Back To School Night
The Annual Intermediate Center’s Back to School Night for parents will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3. During the Back to School Night, all parents will have the opportunity to meet with administration, faculty, and staff.
PTO news
The first PTO meeting for the 2014-15 school year will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24 in the Intermediate Center’s cafeteria. Dues for a family membership are $5. Michelle Christ will preside over the meeting.
