LAFLIN — The annual rite to the end of summer has arrived — the Labor Day Mass at the Oblates of St. Joseph, Route 315, for all workers in Greater Pittston.

“It is a most fitting way to spiritually end the joy of summer by praying to St. Joseph for all workers, the unemployed and invoking blessings upon the start of the new school year for students and teachers,” the Rev. Paul McDonnell, rector of the Oblates facility, said.

The Labor Day Mass at the Oblates has been going on for the past 42 years, as it honors St. Joseph, the patron saint of workers.

Monday’s Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Sibilano, OSJ, serving as principal celebrant and homilist. The Revs. Paul McDonnell, OSJ, and Jackson Pinhero, OSJ, will be concelebrants.

Sibilano was selected to serve at this year’s Mass as he marks his 60th anniversary of priesthood. He was the founder of the annual spiritual event in 1983.

Bread will be blessed and distributed after the Mass as a symbol of the fruit of our labor.
