PITTSTON — The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick recently held its annual Past President Dinner at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
The evening honored immediate Past President Terry McMahon, who enjoyed a great year in which two scholarships were awarded to a Pittston Area student and a Wyoming Area student.
In addition, the club awarded the Gilmartin Scholarship during McMahon’s tenure. This is given out every four years to a Pittston Area or a Wyoming Area student attending King’s College. The Black Shamrock Golf Tournament, Halfway to St. Patrick’s Party and the culminating event, the 103rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner, were huge successes.
The Friendly Sons also held their annual elections that evening. President-elect is Shawn Slusser, first vice president-elect Matthew Meade, second vice president-elect is Michael McFarland, treasurer-elect is Shawn Brogan and secretary-elect Christopher McFarland.
The 104th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 17, at the Woodlands Inn and Resort. Tickets are available through any member of the club or any Thursday evening at the Pittston Knights of Columbus.
The first-ever Women’s Breakfast will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 17 at the Cosgrove Center at the Greater Pittston Memorial Library, 47 Broad St. The cost of the event is $20 for a buffet-style breakfast.
