HUGHESTOWN — The Greater Pittston Chamber of Commerce sponsored Community Reading Day on April 26.

The Community Reading Day program is designed to promote literacy and to strengthen the partnership between business and education.

Business volunteers visited kindergarten and first-grade classrooms at the Martin F. Quinn Primary Center to read a book to the students, discuss the book and their career, and donate the book to the class. This event also gives students and teachers the opportunity to interact with a representative of the business community.

Participating businesses included Pittston Memorial Library, Greater Pittston YMCA, SWB Railriders, Pittston Area School Board, Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office, All Service Rite, Burke Vullo, Reilly and Robert Law, Schott North America Inc., Joyce Insurance Group, Allied Services and King’s College.
