HUGHESTOWN — Kevin Booth, superintendent of the Pittston Area School District, has announced that registration of students who plan to attend kindergarten in the district for the 2018-19 school year will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at the Pittston Area Primary Center, 210 Rock St.

All students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31. Parents may register one of the following ways:

• Access the online registration site: www.pittstonarea.compittstonarea.com> and complete all required information by Sunday, Aug. 19 (preferred method).

• Return a completed registration packet and copies of required documentation to the Administrative Office, 5 Stout St., Yatesville, by Monday, Aug. 13. Registration packets may also be picked up at the administrative office, if necessary.

The kindergarten screening process will also take place Aug. 15. A parent or guardian must bring the student to the Primary Center during the screening time. Each child will receive hearing and vision screening.

Children will also receive a Reading Readiness Assessment, an assessment of pre-reading skills, consisting of two parts: identifying letters of the alphabet and phonemic awareness assessment.

Lastly, immunization history will be reviewed. The following immunizations are required: 4 doses of diphtheria and tetanus vaccine (one dose administered on or after the fourth birthday); 3 doses of polio vaccine; 3 doses of hepatitis B vaccine; 2 doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); 2 doses varicella vaccine (chicken pox) or proof of disease.
