A strawberry social and bake sale will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 28. Ticket cost is $5 which includes a strawberry dessert (cake, strawberries, ice cream, whipped cream) and a beverage. Lunch items, including hot dogs, wimpies and baked goods, will be available. A chicken barbeque and basket raffle will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12 in the parking lot of Arcaro and Genell Restaurant, 433 S. Main St. The dinner is take-out with some limited outside seating. The dinner will be prepared by Arcaro and Genell and included in the $10 ticket price will be ½ barbeque chicken, corn on the cob, pasta salad, and a roll. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling the rectory at 570-457-5900 by Wednesday, Aug. 1. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The 71st annual parish picnic will take place Thursday, Aug. 2 to Saturday, Aug. 4. on the church grounds. Picnic hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 2 and Aug. 3, and 5 to 11 p.m. Aug. 4. Homemade Polish foods, Polka music and games of chance nightly.

The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be Wednesday, Aug. 15, a holy day of obligation. The Mass schedule is as follows:

• Tuesday, Aug 14: 4 p.m., Vigil Mass.

• Wednesday, Aug. 15: 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Masses. Fr. Petro will bless the herbs, flowers, fruits and vegetables from local gardens during the 5:30 p.m. Bring these items to the sanctuary of the church before Mass and place them on the table by the Blessed Mother altar.

The book for 2019 Mass intentions for the parish will open in the Parish Office at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20.

A new weekend Mass schedule is as follows: Saturday, 4 p.m.; Sunday, 8 and 10:30 a.m.

The French boys choir Les Petits Chanteurs de Nogent-sur-Marne will perform at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19. The concert is free and open to the public. This choir of 15 boys, ranging from 10 to 18 years old, is conducted by François Olivier, Titular of the Choir Organ at the prestigious Church of St. Eustache in Paris, France. Formerly called Les Moineaux, the boys choir has been singing and touring France and throughout the world for 65 years. Their life is made up of concerts, television shows, singing lessons, tours and participating in the Sacred Liturgy. Les Moineaux’s concert repertoire will include music of the sixteenth century, Handel’s famous Hallelujah, and Gounod’s Ave Maria, as well as traditional French folk songs. World Youth Day will be held in Panama City, Panama from Jan. 22-27, 2019. World Day is an initiative from St. John Paul II to gather Young Catholics of the world every two to three years in a celebration of faith and culture. The World Youth Day events gather millions, including Pope Francis, young Catholics, clergy, and religious brothers and sisters.

The 22nd annual flea market and ziti dinner will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug, 4; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5. The ziti dinner will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, then from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Cost to attend is $10 for adults, and $6 for children ages 12 and under. A bake sale will be held outside on Saturday. There will be ethnic foods, potato pancakes and traditional foods.
