With REAL IDs about to be made available in Pennsylvania, Rep. Aaron Kaufer (R-Luzerne) will host two events to assist residents with pre-verifying documents required to obtain a REAL ID.

“These two events will help expedite the application process for residents,” Kaufer said. “While obtaining a REAL ID is optional, under federal guidelines, such an ID or other approved identification will be needed to board a commercial flight or visit a secure federal building starting next year.”

Kaufer’s pre-verification events will be held on the following dates: Wednesday Jan. 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the West Pittston Municipal Building, 555 Exeter Ave. and Thursday, Jan. 31 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Hoyt Library, 284 Wyoming Ave., Kingston.

At each event, representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will scan personal documents needed in order to obtain a REAL ID.

Those documents include: proof of identity (original or certified copy of a birth certificate with a raised seal or valid U.S. Passport); Social Security xard; proof of all legal name changes (state or country marriage certificate or court order); two proofs of current, physical Pennsylvania address (current, unexpired PA license or ID, vehicle registration card and a no more than 90-day-old bank statement).

When the application process opens in March, residents who attend one of Kaufer’s events will already have the necessary documents on file with PennDOT.

Registration for these events is required. To RSVP call Kaufer’s office at 570-283-1001. The Deadline to register is Friday, Jan. 25.
