The parishioners of St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, 205 N. Main St., are very excited once again to host an Annual Flea Market and Ziti Dinner on Saturday, Aug. 6, and Sunday, Aug. 7. Twenty-five years ago, church-sponsored flea markets were not common, and St. Michaels was one of the first and has been a success since.
This fundraiser for St. Michael’s Church features an indoor flea market and homemade ethnic food. In addition, you can pick up a ziti and meatball dinner to go. If you love finding treasure and authentic Eastern European food and more, you are sure to find it here.
Featured is longtime favorite: holubki (stuffed cabbage rolls), better known by NEPA locals as “piggies.” There will also be melt-in-your-mouth pirohi (pierogi). Not to be forgotten on the menu is halushki (sauteed noodles and cabbage). And if you’d like a taste of each, a wonderful ethnic sampler. All ethnic foods are served hot on-site, or optionally pre-packed to take home and heat. Potato pancakes served ready-to-eat at the outdoor stand round out the Carpatho-Rusyn ethnic menu. Additional food items include grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, sausage and peppers.
The featured ziti dinner is a generous amount of pasta with homemade sauce and meatballs, salad and bread. Ziti dinners are takeout. Pickup times for ziti dinners are Saturday (noon to 4 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Donation cost is $13 for adults and $8 for children, tickets can be purchased at the door.
The fresh baked goods tent will be Saturday. You are sure to find it tempting! The Flea market is in the lower-level church hall with entrance from the parking lot. Doors open 9 a.m. Saturday (busiest time) and Sunday, with plenty to find both days.
Parish volunteers look forward to seeing everyone and aim to help fulfill ethnic food cravings and treasure hunting hopes. Find info online at https://stmichaelsbyzantine.com/2022-annual-flea-market/ or the parish home page.
