Birthday celebration Nov. 18

PITTSTON — Pittston Active Adult Center members’ birthdays will be celebrated Friday, Nov. 18. A birthday basket will be raffled off to one lucky birthday person. Winners must be present for dinner to be eligible.

Thanksgiving dinner will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19. Reservations required.

The center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Tickets are on sale for the annual Christmas party being held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 at the Jenkins Township Social Hall. Cost is $25 and includes a family-style dinner at 1 p.m, beer, wine and soda included. Music provided by the George Tarasik band from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be door prizes. Membership dues for 2017 are now being accepted. Suggested donation is $5. Members are asked to supply any changes to their information.

FALLS ACTIVE ADULT CENTER

Blood pressure screenings Nov. 17

EXETER TWP. — Joan Krispin, LPN, will conduct blood pressure screenings from 12:45 to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at the Falls Active Adult Center. Krispin will lead bingo afterwards.

Lunch & Learn will be held at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 with Mary Reeves, LSW, admissions director from Golden Living to discuss winter activities for seniors.

A Thanksgiving lunch will be held Friday, Nov 18.

Lunch & Learn will be held at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 with Cherly McGovern, RN from the state Department of Health to discuss flu prevention.

The center will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24 and Friday, Nov. 25 in observance of Thanksgiving.

The Falls Active Adult Center offers a free Geri-Fit class for those aged 50 and over from 9:30 to 10 a.m. every Tuesday and from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. every Friday. This class is designed to help prevent osteoarthritis or slow its progression. Most of the exercises can be done while sitting. There will be light weights for some of the exercises for muscle strengthening. Eight people are needed to conduct the class.

COSMOPOLITAN SENIORS

Club meets Nov. 15

EXETER — The Cosmopolitan Senior Citizens Club will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 in St. Anthony’s Center.

Hosts and hostesses are Marie Cheskiewicz, Edith Jones, Lenore Maffei and Bernie Petrasek.

Elections will be conducted later this month and members are reminded to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to the food pantry. Cash donations for the food pantry, as well as coats and jackets are welcome.

A casino trip is scheduled to Sands Casino in Bethlehem on Dec. 1. Pick-ups are in Exeter and Pittston. Club membership is not required to join trips. Call Johanna at 570-655-2720 for reservations and information.

JENKINS TOWNSHIP SENIORS

Meeting is Nov. 15

JENKINS TWP. — The Jenkins Township Senior Citizens organization will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Jenkins Township fire hall.

Plans will be completed for the annual Christmas party. President Jean Mudlock will preside at the business portion of the meeting and bingo will follow. Refreshments will be served.

Host and hostess for this meeting will be Clarence Maisano and Barbara Clarke.

New members are welcome.
