Mixed precipitation is expected to impact the Wyoming Valley as a storm system enters the region.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Luzerne and Lackawanna counties from 1 p.m. today until 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Rain is expected this morning, and will mix with snow and sleet this afternoon as cold air moves into the area. Most of the region will see a wintry mix into this evening, and that wintry mix is expected to continue into Tuesday morning.

The wintry mix could be heavy at times, with anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of heavy, wet snow and sleet possible. Winds could also gust as high as 40 miles per hour.

Through the midweek

The National Weather Service indicated it was 40 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and overcast skies were reported.

Rain is likely before 4 p.m. today, followed by rain and sleet. Less than half an inch of daytime sleet accumulation is expected, and winds could also gust as high as 24 miles per hour. Today’s high will be near 41.

Tonight will bring rain and sleet before 7 p.m., followed by rain between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. and a mix of rain and snow overnight. Up to 2 inches of new accumulation is possible, and the low will be around 35.

Tuesday will once again bring rain and snow before 1 p.m., followed by a chance of rain into the evening hours. Less than half an inch of snow accumulation is expected, and the high will be near 37.

Mostly cloudy skies are predicted for Tuesday night, with a low around 30.

Partly sunny skies are expected Wednesday, with a high near 44.

Mostly cloudy skies will follow into Wednesday night, along with a slight chance of rain before 1 a.m. and a chance of rain and snow overnight. The low will be around 36.
