Rain and strong storms are expected to impact the Wyoming Valley today and into tonight.
According to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are expected today as a strong cold front passes through the region. Some storms could be severe and produce damaging winds.
An isolated tornado is also possible.
No watches or warnings have been issued for Luzerne or Lackawanna counties.
The forecast
While it’s going to feel like spring today, colder temperatures will move back into the region as the weekend approaches.
The National Weather Service indicated it was 57 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and overcast skies were reported.
Showers and a possible thunderstorm are likely before noon today, followed by showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Some storms could produce gusty winds, and up to a half an inch of total rainfall is possible. Today’s high will be near 70.
A chance of showers and thunderstorms will persist before midnight tonight, followed by a slight chance of showers overnight. Some storms could produce gusty winds, and less than a tenth of an inch of rainfall is expected. Tonight’s low will be around 35.
Thursday will bring partly sunny skies, with a high near 41.
Mostly cloudy skies will follow into Thursday night, along with a chance of flurries. The low will be around 26.
Mostly cloudy skies will round out the week on Friday, along with a 40 percent chance of snow showers. The high will be near 34.
Partly cloudy skies will carry over into Friday night, with a low around 17.
