WILKES-BARRE — Although uncertainty remains in the forecast, the Wyoming Valley could see substantial snowfall on Monday night through Wednesday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for all of Northeastern Pennsylvania and most of Central New York from 8 p.m. Monday until 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Snow is expected to develop across the region on Monday night, and could possibly become heavy into Tuesday and persist into Wednesday. The heavy snow could make travel very dangerous, as roads could become snow-covered and slippery.
A winter storm watch means there is a potential for heavy snow that could severely impact travel.
The forecast
Partly sunny skies are expected for the remainder of the day today, with a high near 26. Partly cloudy skies will follow into tonight, with a low around 12.
Partly sunny skies will start the new week on Monday, with a high near 31.
Snow is expected to become likely after 9 p.m. on Monday night, and up to 2 inches of snowfall is possible. The low will be around 22.
A 90 percent chance of snow is predicted on Tuesday and into Tuesday night, but no snowfall amounts have been predicted. The high on Tuesday will be near 31, and the low into Tuesday night will be around 20.
Snow will continue to be likely before 9 a.m. Wednesday, with mostly cloudy skies expected otherwise. The high will be near 26.
Mostly cloudy skies are predicted for Wednesday night, along with a 50 percent chance of snow before 9 p.m. The low will be around 16.
