PITTSTON — A Berwick man accused of attacking and raping a woman was arrested by U.S. Marshals on Thursday.
Alfonzo Glenn, 44, repeatedly beat his victim and had intercourse with her while at a residence in Pittston in February, a news release says.
U.S. Marshals and officers in Pittston learned recently he might be in the Benton area in Columbia County.
Glenn was located and arrested Tuesday in the 500 block of Market Street in Benton.
A criminal docket indicates Glenn was arraigned before District Judge Alexandra Kokura-Kravitz on Tuesday. He faces charges of rape, indecent assault, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, terroristic threats, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person.
According to a criminal complaint:
The victim told police at the hospital that Glenn visited her apartment Feb. 10 to apologize for a domestic incident the day prior.
During the fight, Glenn accused the victim of being with someone else and told her he would “measure her body to see how many bags it would take to cut her up and place in the trunk of her car.” Glenn also threatened to kill the victim’s family.
On Feb. 13, the victim again spoke with police at headquarters. She told them Glenn asked for her phone. When he found text messages from another man, he began to punch her with a closed fist. He then placed a bag over her head and tightened it to the point of suffocation. The victim was able to poke a hole through the bag so she could breathe.
Frustrated with the bag “not being strong enough,” Glenn wrapped an Ace bandage around her neck and face, so the victim couldn’t speak.
The victim’s 4-year-old son was on a couch and proceeded to fall off during the argument. Glenn allowed the victim to put her son back on the couch. She saw it as an opportunity to escape and made it as far as the front door before Glenn grabbed her and slammed her face on the floor.
Taking a knife from the kitchen drawer, Glenn told the victim he’d killed before and murder is “the easier crime to get away with.” When the victim asked to use the restroom, Glenn followed her.
After using the restroom, Glenn forced her to have sex with him. She didn’t fight him for fear he would beat or strangle her again. Glenn fell asleep in the bedroom after intercourse, and the victim called 911.
Investigators noted the victim’s glasses were damaged and the wounds she received were consistent with strangulation.
Glenn is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. April 5 before Kravitz. Court documents indicate Glenn was denied bail due to being considered a flight risk.
The U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force worked jointly in this investigation with members of the Benton Police Department, Berwick Police Department, State Police, Scranton Police and the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office.
