An investigation revealed that Rivera, Lissone, and Davis allegedly cashed the counterfeit checks at Price Chopper in Wyoming. The checks were cashed on 10 separate dates between Jan. 18 and Feb. 23, and they totaled $3,468.

Here are more details from a criminal complaint:

Officers were contacted by employees of the store on Wyoming Avenue on March 18. They said Rivera, Lissone and Mathis presented counterfeit checks to the customer service desk and received money for them.

But the checks were later rejected by the bank as being counterfeit.

Rivera cashed a total of $2,077 in checks between Jan. 18 and Feb. 23, while Lissone cashed $1,042 in checks between Feb. 3 and Feb. 20. Desiree cashed a single check Feb. 18 for about $349.

The three suspects are now charged with theft by unlawful taking, forgery and criminal conspiracy. They were arraigned before District Judge Joseph Carmody on Thursday.

Preliminary hearings have been scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 26 before Carmody. Rivera, Lissone and Mathis were each jailed for lack of $7,500 bail.
