A mixture of sunshine and rain is in the forecast as the weekend approaches, and temperatures are also expected to climb well above 70.

The National Weather Service reported that it was 54 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and overcast skies were reported.

Mostly cloudy skies are expected today, along with a slight chance of showers before 9 a.m. Today’s high will be near 68.

Tonight will also bring mostly cloudy skies, with a low around 56.

Partly sunny skies are predicted for Thursday, with a high near 76.

Clouds will return on Thursday night, along with a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Less than a tenth of an inch of total rainfall expected. Thursday night’s low will be around 60.

Partly sunny skies will round out the week on Friday, along with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 a.m. The high will be near 78.

Partly cloudy skies will follow into Friday night, along with a 30 percent chance of showers after 3 a.m. The low will be around 59.
