Storms could impact the Wyoming Valley later today and into tonight, and some of those storms could pack a punch.

A cold front will bring the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and into this evening, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. Locally heavy rainfall is possible with those storms, along with localized minor flooding in urban areas.

A few storms could also produce strong winds or hail.

No watches or warnings have been issued for Luzerne County.

The forecast

The National Weather Service indicated it was 69 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, and fair skies were reported.

Clouds will increase throughout the day today, and showers and thunderstorms are likely after 4 p.m. Up to a quarter of an inch of total rainfall is predicted, and today’s high will be near 88.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue to be likely before 11 p.m. tonight, followed by a slight chance of showers between 11 p.m. and midnight. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and the low will be around 66.

Mostly sunny skies will return on Wednesday, with a high near 83. Partly cloudy skies will follow into Wednesday night, with a low around 57.

Partly sunny skies are expected on Thursday, with a high near 77.

Thursday night will bring mostly cloudy skies, along with a 50 percent chance of showers after 2 a.m. The low will be around 58.
