A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for most of Northeastern Pennsylvania and Central New York.

The watch, which includes Luzerne and Lackawanna counties, is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight.

A strong front is expected to move through the region today, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. Severe thunderstorms are possible as the front moves through.

The primary threats are damaging winds, large hail, locally heavy rain, and possible flash flooding.

The greatest threat will be east of Interstate 81 in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

A severe thunderstorm watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms.
