Greater Pittston library news for week of May 13, 2018



Spring hours – Monday and Thursday, noon to 7 p.m.; Wednesday, closed; Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, May 14 to discuss “The Story of Arthur Truluv” by Elizabeth Berg.

Teen Reading Lounge will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12 and Saturday, May 19 to discuss the graphic novel “American Born Chinese.”

A monthly book club with Home Yoga and Barre will begin Friday, June 1 and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the yoga studio in West Pittston. Books will be available to borrow free of cost to member who hold an active Luzerne County Library Card. The first book being discussed is “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert.


The Literary Snoops Book Club now meets at the West Library Library at 12:15 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the discussion.

Bring your doll to the library at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 for an evening of girl-time fun. Participants will enjoy excerpts from the latest Girl of the Year book, participate in games and free play together.The movie “Deep” will be shown at 1 p.m Saturday May 19.

Sew outdoor placemats at 6 p.m. Monday, May 21. Cost is $5 per person.

Penn State Master Gardner Roberta Troy will be on hand at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 22 to teach students about birds, bugs and butterflies through a story narrated by her cats.

Book Club meets at 12:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month.

Kindergarten Readiness programs are offered at 1 p.m. every Friday to help prepare students for pre-k or kindergarten. Participants are to register by Wednesday of each week.


Masterpiece Adult Coloring Get-Togethers will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19. Cost is $10 per session and will cover the adult coloring book and supplies. Money is due when registering.

Reading help will be available at the library for children in grades 1 to 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday. Call the library to register.


The Book Discussion Group will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 14 to discuss “Pretty Girls” by Karen Slaughter.

The Laflin Library Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15.

Children are invited to come to the library Thursday, May 17 through Saturday, May 19 to make a card for Mother’s Day. All supplies will be provided.

The Laflin Library Association will host a presentation on identity theft and telephone scams at 6 p.m. Monday, May 21. State Trooper Piekanski of the Wyoming Barracks assisted in planning this program. Detective Charles Balogh and Detective Larry Fabian of the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office will conduct the presentation.
