PITTSTON — Duryea police have charged a Lackawanna County man with sexually assaulting a girl in 2017 and 2018.
Police allege Shawn Booths, 40, of South Hyde Park Avenue, Scranton, raped a girl known to him inside a residence on Main Street in Duryea.
Booths was arrested by Upper Providence Township police in Delaware County and turned over to Duryea police on a warrant charging him with three counts of indecent assault and one count each of rape of a child, statutory sexual assault, terroristic threats and indecent exposure.
Booths concealed his face with arrest papers after he was escorted out of his arraignment by District Judge Alexandra Kokura Kravitz on Wednesday.
According to a criminal complaint:
Police were notified by a nurse at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital on Aug. 14 regarding a girl who was sexually assaulted.
Police said the girl was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center where she claimed Booths began sexually assaulting her in 2017.
The girl told a forensic interviewer she was afraid to tell anyone because Booths threatened to sneak into her house and take her.
Booths was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $200,000 bail.
