YATESVILLE — Kevin Booth, superintendent of the Pittston Area School District, has announced that registration of students who plan to attend kindergarten in the district for the 2019-20 school year will be held through March 20. All students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2019. Parents may register in one of the following ways:
• Access the online registration site: www.pittstonarea.com and complete all required information by Wednesday, March 20 (preferred method).
• Return a completed registration packet and copies of required documentation to the Administrative Office, 5 Stout St., Yatesville, by Wednesday, March 20. Registration packets may also be picked up at the Administrative Office, if necessary.
Screening dates: March 25-27
The kindergarten screening process will take place on March 25, 26,and 27. Screening hours will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Pittston Area Primary Center, Rock St., Hughestown. A parent or guardian must bring the student to the Primary Center during the screening dates in March.
Each child will receive hearing and vision screening. Children will also receive a Reading Readiness Assessment, which is an assessment of pre-reading skills, consisting of two parts: identifying letters of the alphabet and phonemic awareness assessment.
Lastly, immunization history will be reviewed. All students registering must adhere to the school vaccination requirements set forth by Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Students will be screen alphabetically according to the child’s last name.
A-I — March 25
J-R — March 26
S-Z — March 27
