Two named to dean’s list

WORCESTER, MA — Sarah Strazdus, of Harding, and Carrie Pozaic, of Wyoming, have been named to the dean’s list at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for the fall 2018 semester.

Strazdus is a member of the class of 2021 majoring in mechanical engineering and Pozaic is a member of the class of 2019 majoring in chemical engineering.

Dymond recognized at Citadel

CHARLESTON, SC — Matthew L. Dymond, of Tunkhannock, is among the 446 cadets and students recognized for their academic achievements during the fall 2018 semester.

Gold stars are awarded to cadets and students at The Citadel who achieved a 3.7 grade point average or higher. Cadets and students who achieve gold star recognition are also placed on The Citadel’s dean’s list.

Choi participate in fashion show

SCRANTON — Youngeun Choi, of Pittston, participated in GCSOM’s annual “cultural explosion” fashion show, an event that caps off the school’s Diversity Week celebration. During the event, the students shared their cultural dress while the audience learned about the garments’ origins and were entertained with regional music as the models walked the red carpet.

Choi, a member of GCSOM’s MD Class of 2022, modeled traditional Korean dress called “hanbok.”

Allison Barber honored

LOCK HAVEN — Bloomsburg University student-athlete Allison Barber, of Pittston, has been named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Fall Top 10 Team as chosen by the league’s sports information directors. The PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize 10 student-athletes (five female and five male) each season who excel in both the classroom and is athletic competition.

McDermott earns dean’s list

SELINSGROVE — Anna McDermott, of Hughestown, was named to Susquehanna University’s dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester.

McDermott, a psychology major, is a 2016 graduate of Pittston Area High School. She is the daughter of Robert McDermott and the granddaughter of Shirley Antal.

Colleran graduates from Kutztown

KUTZTOWN — Katelyn Marie Colleran, of Pittston, has been awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Special Education Cum Laude from Kutztown University.

Lopatka named to dean’s list

YOUNGSTOWN, OH — Zachary Lopatka, of Exeter, has been named to dean’s list at Youngstown State University for the fall 2018 semester. He is a General Studies major.

Monko named Employee of the Year

SCRANTON — Jill Monko, of West Wyoming, has been named Employee of the Year at Commonwealth Health Regional Hospital of Scranton.

Each hospital names an Employee of the Year, Clinical Manager of the Year and Manager of the Year. The Employee of the Year and a guest are honored at an awards celebration in Franklin, Tenn. The trip includes a stay in Nashville and tours of that city’s sights.

Monko, a staffing coordinator in the hospital’s nursing administration department, joined the staff in 2007.

In her role, she works with the director of nursing and nurse managers to schedule staff for all departments and shifts. Monko was singled out for her dedication to the staff and for her positive attitude even during challenging times. Coworkers describe her as the “glue that keeps the nursing staff together” as she organizes luncheons and birthday celebrations while keeping the schedules organized.
