DAYTONA BEACH, FL — Second Lieutenant Zachary Nuncio Sypniewski, a former student of Pittston Area and Wyoming Area, has graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics. He has also been commissioned as a pilot in the U. S. Air Force. Sypniewski married his college sweetheart Stephanie Bermudez on March 23, 2019. He is the son of Barry and Maria (Massara) Sypniewski, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. He has a sister, Nina, who is a sophomore at Florida Atlantic University. Sypewski is the grandson of Rosemary Massara, Dallas; Frank Massara, Jensen Beach, FL, formerly of Wyoming; and the late Stanley and Blanche Sypniewski. The Sypniewskis will begin their new life together at Laughlin Air Force Base, Del Rio ,TX in September where he will begin his pilot training.
PA graduate supports Navy personnel
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — A 2011 Pittston Area High School graduate and Pittston native supports the training of naval aviation personnel and air operations. Petty Officer 2nd Class Kyle Starzec is a culinary specialist serving at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. A Navy culinary specialist is responsible for maintaining the morale of the ship’s crew by preparing and serving quality nutritious food.
Charney graduates from Arcadia
GLENSIDE — Christian Charney, of Duryea, was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Computing Technology at Arcadia University’s 2019 Graduate and Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies May 16 and 17.
Three locals to attend Kutztown

Four graduate from U of Sciences
PHILADELPHIA — Four local students graduate from the University of the Sciences May 22. They are Kelly Mitchell, of Pittston, doctor of Pharmacy degree; Brittany Souryavong, of Duryea, doctor of Pharmacy degree; Sara Radzwilka, of Exeter, master of Occupational Therapy degree; and Michelle Golden, of West Pittston, master of science degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
Sewatsky receives award
SCRANTON — Fourth-year student Thomas Sewatsky, of Pittston, received the Dr. Lester Saidman Award for Excellence in Emergency Medicine during the annual end-of-year awards program at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.
