The Pittston Memorial Library has teamed up with the Alzheimer’s Association Greater PA Chapter in a collaborative effort to offer Memory Kits to help make the library more Dementia and Alzheimer’s friendly.

Memory Kits are created for caregivers of those experiencing memory loss. Each item in the kit is specifically selected to spark memories, create conversation, and provide positive and engaging interactions between people with dementia-related conditions and their care partner. The kits are divided into high, middle and low activity levels.

The Memory Kits will each have a theme (gardening, sensory, reminiscing, decades, etc.) and will contain activities that can be checked out, just like a book. They will also contain tips on caring for a loved one with a dementia-related condition as well as a list of suggested reading, which users can keep when they check out the kit. A notebook is included so each user can include a note or a memory which can be read by the next families who check out the kit.

The goal is to create 25 Memory Kits that will circulate like books.
