WYOMING – The Wyoming Recreation Board is rebuilding itself after a bit of a hiatus and held an ice cream social at the John Jude Bolin Park July 14.

Roseanne Colarusso, Wyoming Borough manager and new president of the Rec. Board, is excited about the future of the board and is hoping to breathe new life into a dormant organization.

“This is the first time we are doing Ice Cream Sundaes in the Park,” Colarusso said, admitting she got the idea when visiting Ocean City, MD. “We go there every year and they have ice cream sundaes every Sunday in the park and they have entertainment. Eventually, we will have entertainment, as well.”

According to Colarusso, the Rec. Board recently had a flea market.

“It worked out well. We had 10 vendors and it was short and held quickly,” Colarusso said. “We are funding today’s event from the proceeds of the flea market.”

Movie Night is tentatively planned for Aug. 2. Residents should follow the Rec. Board on Facebook where all events will be announced, including Ice Cream Sundaes in the Park.

In addition to the flea market, Movie Night and Sundaes in the Park, Colarusso said plans are in the works for a Sabatini’s Bottle & Beer event in October with baskets and 50-50 raffles.

“We might have a Halloween party or even a Wyoming’s Got Talent,” Colarusso said. “We are going to experiment and we might want to do something down the road that is bigger and maybe join with other towns to do a festival, but we have to build this up first.”

Colarusso envisions a possible event centered on the Wyoming Monument and is open to suggestions from residents for a special event.

Ten-year-old twins Brad and Derek Bohn enjoyed sundaes on a hot, lazy Sunday afternoon. The Bohns live within a block of the parks.

“My dad told us about the ice cream in the park,” Brad said. “I got chocolate, chocolate chips, brownies and hot fudge.”

Derek decided on vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips, hot fudge and whipped cream.

Melissa Hudzinski brought along her children, Hannah, 6, and David, 3, to the park for ice cream.

“I read about the event on Facebook and I live close by and thought it would be a great idea to bring along the kids,” Hudzinski said. “It’s a great idea and I’m looking forward to other events from the Rec. Board.”
