DALLAS TWP. — A team of speech-language pathology students at Misericordia University recently made a scholarly presentation at the 2019 Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention, “Revolutionary Practice in the Keystone State,’’ in Lancaster.
Student researchers Annette Ritzko, of Coaldale, Quinn Kelley, of Peckville,, and Jillian Scanlon, of Pittston, presented the 1 hour, 30-minute technical seminar, “Virtual Dissection: A Novel Approach to Teach Anatomy and Physiology.’’ The students utilized the university’s Anatomage table and existing research to illustrate how technological advancements can generate excitement in students and provide a beneficial supplement to learning gross anatomy.
Ritzko is a second-year graduate student who has been a graduate research assistant in the department for two years, and has made scholarly presentations at state and national conferences. Kelley is a third-year undergraduate student who is a research assistant in the academic department. She has presented at state conferences. A third-year undergraduate student and research assistant in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology, Scanlon has presented scholarly research at state conferences. Each student has extensive experience with the virtual dissection table.
