WEST WYOMING — George Sharkey, 17, a member of the Boy Scout Troop # 366 and a resident of West Wyoming, has earned the honor of Eagle Scout, the highest rank Boy Scouts offers. Only three to four percent of Boy Scout members ever attain this honor. The son of George and Susan Sharkey, he is a senior at Wyoming Area and a member of the cross country team.

Sharkey has been active in scouting since age 7 as a Tiger Cub. He obtained the Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei and trophies in the pack car/regatta races for five consecutive years, qualifying for the district races.

After receiving the Arrow of Light, he went on to obtain 29 merit badges to attain the Eagle rank. His service project was to update the landscaping around the rectory of St. Monica’s Parish in West Wyoming. The project involved replacing mulch with white river rock, cleaning up shrubbery, and repotting planters with flowers.

Sharkey would like to thank everyone who helped him achieve this honor and offers a special thank you to Mr. Doug Kaminski and the Stahley family, as well as all the leaders and Scout families.
