Stephanie Godri-Johnston, a graduate of Wyoming Area, passed away from colon cancer in May 2012 at just 32 years of age. Steph’s Fall 5K was created as a way for her family and friends to honor her memory and continue the mission of awareness for colon cancer prevention.
Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the US. It is also one of the most preventable and treatable when caught early. Early screenings save lives.
Through the generosity of sponsors, participants and donors, Steph’s Fall 5K has been able to provide nearly $30,000 in scholarship monies to outstanding seniors at Wyoming Area Secondary Center in Exeter in just seven years. In addition to the scholarship award, the organization has donated close to $40,000 to the Colon Cancer Alliance to help fund programs that have provided grants to over 100 people in need of financial assistance related to colorectal cancer diagnosis.
As of late 2017, the Stephanie Godri-Johnston Memorial Scholarship is a 501(c)3 non-profit.
