Murder Mystery Dinner sold out

Meet the author

Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library will host “Meet the Author” Sam Chiarelli, Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. in the Cosgrove Room. A Pittston native,Chiarelli has been fascinated with dinosaurs since childhood. He has written a book entitled “Dig. A Personal Prehistoric Journey.” The author takes the reader on a cross-country Amtrak trip leading to museums, prep labs, robotic dinosaur parks, with the final destination to a fossil dig in Colorado. Following a reading from the book, a brief question and answer period will be held. Books will be available for sale and signing. The public is invited to attend at no charge. Reservations may be made by calling the library at 570-654-9565. Walk-ins are welcome. Light refreshments compliments of the Friends will be available.

Chair Yoga with Lisa

Join us for a four-week chair yoga series. Cost is $40. The remaining dates for this session are Sept. 30. All classes are at 1 p.m. in the John P. Cosgrove Center. Space is limited. Please call or visit the library to register.

Fall Book Sale

Join us for the Friends of the Pittston Library Fall Fill A Bag Book Sale on Friday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is something for everyone. Thousands of new to used books, DVDs, audios and more.

Fidget Band Service Project

Join members of our crochet and knitting club to make fidget arm bands that will be added to our library’s memory project. You are able to attend as many of the dates as you want but you do not need to commit to all dates. Program will take place Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. in September. Call the library to register. Prior experience knitting or crocheting is required and all finished projects will be donated to the Pittston Memorial Library’s Memory Program. Some supplies will be provided but please feel free to bring your own yarn and embellishments. Please call the library or message the page to reserve your spot.

Art Afternoon

All are welcome to come to the library Friday afternoons from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for art afternoon. Work on some zen coloring in the library or bring your own supplies and work on some crochet, knitting or felting.

Grammar pencil sale

You asked for them… we got them. A set of five high-quality pencils with common grammar mistakes are just $5 and make a great gift for your favorite lit nerd.

Book Club

The Literary Snoops Book Club now meets at the West Pittston Library at 12:15 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the discussion.

Tech Help Open House

Thursday, Oct. 3 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Let Circulation Assistant Dawn answer your technical computer questions and coach you on new skills. Space is limited, so register early.

Book & Brews Fundraiser

Sabatini’s Bottleshop, $25, Thursday, Oct. 10, 6 to 9 p.m. Support the library with pizza and beer. The Friends of the Library will have basket raffles and entertainment with Jack (Brogan) and Frank. Tickets include three beers or sodas, and all you can eat pizza. Must be 21+ to attend.

Blood drive

Fill-a-bag booksale

The library is having a fill-a-bag book sale on Friday, Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m .to 3 p.m.. The cost is $5 per bag. The library is accepting donations for the sale. Contact the library for more information about the sale or donations.

Halloween Party in the ParkThe library is hosting a Halloween event on Sunday, Oct. 13, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Ralph Dailey Memorial Park in West Wyoming. The event will start with a parade from the West Wyoming Borough Building to the park where there will be activity stations, refreshments, raffles and trunk-or-treat. Costumes are optional.

Trunk or treat

The library is seeking community organizations to sponsor trunk-or-treat vehicles. Any interested organizations or individuals can call the library to sponsor a vehicle.

‘Poldark’ season five discussion

The library will hold a discussion group during the fifth season of “Poldark” from 5 to 6 p.m. starting Monday, Sept. 30. Please contact the library for information.

‘Legend of Sleepy Hollow’

The library is celebrating the 200th anniversary of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” at noon on Saturday, Oct. 19. The Disney movie will be shown and participants will and headless horseman pumpkins. Registration is required and space is limited.
