PITTSTON -This year marks the 50th anniversary of the placement of the Columbus Statue at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and South Main Street.

As much as the statue celebrates the journey of Columbus’ trek to America, it also celebrates the migration of hard-working Italians to America, more over Pittston.

The Columbus Statue committee recently completed the final statue site development with lighting the statue, flags and a commemorative 50th anniversary plaque.

To mark the anniversary, a parade, program at the statue and dinner will take place on Sunday, Oct. 13.
