Scarecrow Festival
Free Admission, Saturday, Oct. 26 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Vote for your favorite scarecrow for 25 cents. Carnival games with prizes. Free scarecrow craft for kids, apple and pumpkin pie contest (Contact Kristin at 570-654-9565, ext. 26). Cup of Paint will have paint-your-own fall themed signs for $10 each. Plus bake sale, refreshments and more.
Scarecrow Festival Pie Contest
As part of the scarecrow festival, we are again holding an apple and pumpkin pie contest. The contest will begin at noon so pies can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 26. The contest will be held in the nonfiction section of the Children’s Wing. The pies can be viewed from a distance by the public. We will accept only one type of pie per person. We will be accepting only five of each kind on a first-come basis, so stop by the library to fill out your form and get it to us as soon as you can (or print a copy of the one under “discussion”). The deadline for entry will be Friday, Oct. 25. There will be a cash prize of $25 for first place of each type of pie.

Book Club
The Literary Snoops Book Club now meets at the West Pittston Library at 12:15 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the discussion.
Kindergarten Readiness. Fridays, 1 p.m. Become a regular at this weekly early-literacy enhanced class designed to introduce children to the library, get them interested in books and develop the skills needed for school. Please register by Wednesday of each week. Oct. and 25.

Trunk or treat
The library is seeking community organizations to sponsor trunk-or-treat vehicles. Any interested organizations or individuals can call the library to sponsor a vehicle.
‘Poldark’ season five discussion
The library will hold a discussion group from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays during the fifth season of “Poldark.”
